Happy Halloween!

On the Homefront: How did every one's Halloween go? Did you have fun? Go to some parties, or take the kids out trick or treating?

We just stayed home and I delivered my Halloween Pumpkin cookies to the neighbors! Of course the family next door, I found out later, had eaten then all up before the mom even knew about them! So I had to sneak a couple of more over just for her! LOL!
Mac could easily eat all 60 cookies himself if I hadn't passed some out!

I managed to get outside and turn on the sprinkler for awhile. My plants were getting pretty dried out(at least the ones that weren't frozen in the first frost)! After that, we've had nothing but warm weather. It was in the mid 70's here today, beautiful! Quite a difference from the 1991 Halloween blizzard back in Minnesota when we received 36 inches of snow in one night!!! It was awful! Everything was stopped, closed, shut down, you name it. Even the doctors at the hospitals had to drive in on snowmobiles!

On the Workfront: Well I haven't listed anything yet today, I just may have to do double tomorrow, which really isn't that bad. I did however work on some jewelry, sort through packing materials and also do some internet research to determine origins, prices etc of some upcoming items. Lot's of goodies to list, not enough time!

Well I need to get some more work done in doing this research. I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday.
Have a great night, and thanks for listening

The Night Before The Candy Raid!

Good evening everyone! Are you all getting ready for tomorrow night? I'm just making my cookies(have some more dough chilling in the fridge right now).
There usually are very many kids here in this development. I think just the few that live close by will visit a few homes here. It is getting more and more scary every year to bring your children out for this. It is unfortunate though, for it is truly a fun and entertaining experience when everything goes well.

Remember way back when? We used to bring home apples, baked goods, money, etc. Then as the years went by the sickos out there starting putting things in those candies and apples. How horrible to make such a fun night for kids turn into something out of a horror movie.

When my kids got a little older, that's when stores, malls and such starting catering free events, which was great to keep the little ones off the street and out of harms way.

Well are any of you going to any Halloween parties? If so, let me know. And tell me what you will or have worn if you've already attended. I've dressed up before, but surprisingly I've never been to an actual Halloween or costume party in my life! Sad huh?

Well I got 3 new items posted today. There are 2 necklaces and 1 ring, all from my "Newtiques" collection. I'll post 1 pic just to show you!

Well I'm going to go and watch Law and Order, then make more icing for the cookies. It's almost time to shut the door(it was 70 degrees today)as it's starting to cool off.
Have a great night all,
I will see you tomorrow

It's Thursday And All Is Well!

How is everyone tonight? Are you cuddled up on the couch watching a tv program waiting for your eyes to close? Doesn't that just feel the best? When you're that tired and you don't have to think about TRYING to fall asleep!

That's why I don't curl up on the couch much, it would knock me out! LOL! In case I haven't mentioned it, I have Narcolepsy, which is a sleep disorder. I take ritalin for it, which is ironic because they give it to kids with attention deficit problems because they are hyper, it slows them down. For people with narcolepsy, it speeds them up, keeping them awake!

Well that's the lesson for tonight! LOL! I do pretty good though as long as I'm moving. If I just sat here not typing and was reading, I'd be asleep already.

I did some organizing today of my studio, it's always messy. Especially when I'm working on making things. It's hard to put things away when I'm going to have to take them right back out in a minute or two.
I got 2 necklaces made and 3 rings, all from my "Newtiques" collection. I listed only a couple of things today in between the designing. I did pop in a picture of one of my new rings, the purple one!

I know it's late, but I'm starting my Halloween cookies tonight! I'll have to make a couple of batches in order to have enough, so maybe 1 tonight and 1 tomorrow.
I'll be sure to let you know how they turn out.

Well I'm off to finish a few things before baking. I hope everyone has a great night!
Thanks for reading,
Laurie

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

Hi everyone! Well it's still Wednesday, and although it LOOKS like I posted twice today(at midnight) it was still Tuesday to me, as I hadn't gone to bed yet!

Haven't got any listings done yet. Well this is pretty early for me anyway. I've checked my sites, made replies, blogged, tweeted and facebooked at least a little for today. I hope all is well with my new fans and old friends. I hope that eventually you will all become both!!

I am still in the process of finishing some more Christmas items. For you that haven't seen them yet (or would like to see more) I will post a couple that I have in my Xmas shoppe! Please let me know what you think of them okay?

I'm also looking for some ideas to do for some new trees. I'd like to do a couple of themed trees, like for instance a butterfly tree, with lots of different butterflies in various shapes and colors. Or perhaps a Disney tree with various Disney characters.

Anyway, I'm totally open to any suggestions you might have! It's fun to see what other people think of, I mean I can't think of everything right? Just leave me a comment here, or if you would rather not post it, you can email me at cutethings@sbcglobal.net.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you!

On the home front, Mac and I just got through eating stuffed green peppers! Yummm they were soooo good, and (pun intended) I am STUFFED! When I make them I always make enough of the meat mixture and roll into Porcupine Meatballs. Then I get 2 different meals out of 1! I'm hoping to get started on my Halloween cookies tomorrow. We don't have any family here, (and I send them all baked goods at Christmas) so I usually make them for our neighbors and of course, ourselves. (shhhhhh that means mostly Mac) because he's a sweet freak, especially for cookies!

I make my Halloween cookies the same as my Xmas. A sugar type cookie cut out, but I mix up my food coloring to get the icing orange, and "voila" Halloween cookies!

Well that's about it for now. At least we only had snow for a few minutes!
It's almost 6pm here so I better get to work and start listing things for the weekend.
Have a good night all!
Laurie
Good evening everyone, or should I say good morning. I had planned on writing here at the end of the night, and I just realized that it's after midnight! So technically, I missed Tuesday!

Well I'm still working on my Christmas items, I know I promised pictures but I still have to add a few more touches before I do that. I will however add some pics of other items I've listed today and yesterday. Just click on the pic of my items and it will take you to the listing. It started snowing here tonight, and it's super cold!! The only good thing is that it sure does help keep me in the mood to create my Christmas goodies!

I'm also working on some of my "Newtiques" rings. I have a couple that are almost dry so I should have them up shortly.

I also wanted to tell you that I am running a sale in my Etsy shop. If you go to my Facebook fan page and sign up to be a fan, you will receive 25% off your ENTIRE order! Just put the word "FAN" in message to seller upon checkout and I will send your refund via Paypal!

On the homefront, my faithful buddy "Gizmo" must be chilled too, because she just won't leave me alone and wants to cuddle. I was going to start baking my Halloween cookies tonight but ran out of time. Well there's always tomorrow right? Mac is getting ready to go to work (he has to bundle up) working in and out of his truck delivering. I'm glad I'm not out there, toooooo cold!

Well that's it for now friends, I'll be back later,
Laurie

Hi everyone, I'm back! Well it's been a pretty productive day so far (and it's in the 70's outside) which always helps with the mood.
I got a few items listed in my Etsy shop, Mac took my orders to the post office and is out collecting from his accounts for his job.

I've been following a fellow artisan on Facebook and Twitter, and finally got to have a chat with her today. Her name is Nisha and she has Lanee's Crochet on Artfire. Before I forget, this is the link for her shop:
http://www.artfire.com/users/LaneesCrochet

She has got some of the cutest things that she crochets! Some very nice items. As a matter of fact, I just put in a custom order for one of her hats! She is very easy to work with. Can't wait to get it. It will be cold soon enough LOL!

And while I'm making recommendations, I cannot forget my good friend Cindy, whom I met through Ebay when she purchased from me many times over. We have continued a friendship and now besides our stores on Ebay, we each have them on Etsy.
Cindy makes beautiful jewelry (I especially like her bracelets). They are very unique, well made and "just pretty"! She also has a diverse collection of Vintage items. She is a warm and loving person, besides being a great retailer. Please check her out as well at:
http://www.sweetcindylouwho.etsy.com/ and on ebay she is at
sweetcindylou62 and her blogpost is;

Okay so I am going to be making some Christmas items tonight (since I got my listings posted earlier today). I will post some pics for you tomorrow.
Have a great night everyone!

Hi there! Welcome to my new blog! I am just learning about the world wide web's bloggisphere, networking and all the rest of what's out there in cyberspace. Please be patient, you "Can teach an old dog new tricks"!

My name is Laurie and I live in Reno Nevada. I spent my entire life up until 5 years ago in Minnesota, the frozen tundra! My husband is "Mac" and he and I decided to throw caution to the wind, (after Macs employer of 23 years decided to file bankruptcy and close) pick up and move everything 1800 miles away! Where the sand is golden, the tumbleweeds blow and the wind can fly you without jet fuel!

Yes it's wonderful here. We do love it. No mosquitoes(minnesotas national bird) LOL, no fleas(the animals are at peace) and not too many flying insects either. Thought it was very strange when we first got here that everyone had their windows open and no screens on! Reno is the northern part of Nevada, unfortunately we still get snow here. Coming from the frozen north, and the fact that Christmas is my favorite time of year, I felt that still having snow was fine just not that much of it.

Well now that we have been here awhile and are used to the dry heat in the summer and love it, we don't want ANY snow! So eventually we will move farther south, where your tennies melt on the sidewalk, the lakes dry up every summer and the sand blowing in your eyes is a common occurence! Or at least travel there every year when it's winter here.

Family: I have 2 beautiful daughters, Rachel and Sara, and 5 grandchildren, 3 girls and 2 boys ranging from toddler to 16 years old. They all live back in Minnesota.
My daughter Sara and husband Rob were just here for a week last month. We had a great time, went to the Outhouse races in Virgina City, quite a hoot! I will post some pics so you can have a laugh as well!

Occupation: 2 years ago I gave up working in the rat race and decided to do what I love the most.....creating! I have been in retail pretty much my entire life and although I do love it, it can be one of the hardest and lowest paying occupations out there. I decided that if I'm going to work that hard, it might as well be for myself, then I would be rewarded in the end for making people happy by creating something beautiful, and taking something old, forgotten and tossed aside, and giving it new life in a new world.
Everyone who saw my creations stated that I had such "Cute Things"!

That's how I began Cutethings 6.
I have 3 shops right now at:
http://www.cutethings6.etsy.com/ (repurposed jewelry designs, room decor and vintage goodies)
http://www.cutethings6xmas.etsy.com/ (All things Christmas)
http://www.cutethings6.com/ (Vintage and newer items-household, crafts, tools etc)

My most popular line is my "Newtiques" collection. Newtiques is the name of my product line consisting of "New" and "Antique/Vintage" items and blending them together to make a one of a kind piece that cannot be duplicated!

During my "working outside the home" about 10 years ago I started a line of body products called L'mac (pronounced La-mac). L'mac helped me keep my sanity as I was able to create and relax somewhat when I came home from a long day in the workforce.
I will eventually be incorporating L'mac into my Cutethings6 stores.

I am also on Twitter at http://twitter.com/cutethings6
And my facebook fan page is http://www.facebook.com/pages/cute-things-6/90091664263?ref=nf

In addition, I am running a special right now for signing up to be a fan on Facebook. If you sign up by clicking the link above, then go to http://www.cutethings6.etsy.com/ and make a purchase, you will get 25% off! See the shop announcement for details!

Well it is time to get back to work. I will check back later.....
